Lucion has a great deal of experience in the field of education, from local authority schools through to higher education authorities such as Durham and Sunderland Universities. Many educational establishments contain asbestos because of their age, but also more modern structures have been built when the dangers of asbestos were not well known. Prime examples of the latter are the CLASP schools of the 1960s and 1970s which are known to have had asbestos used in their construction. As so many children and young people can be affected if these materials are incorrectly managed, Lucion appreciate the importance of the correct management of asbestos. We realise that surveys have to be carried out discretely and so our dedicated staff will often go into schools or colleges during the holiday periods and our livery has no mention of asbestos as we are aware that this could potentially cause parental concern.

Due to our substantial commitment to educational establishments we were heavily involved in Building Schools for the Future, a Government led investment program, aiming to improve or rebuild many schools across the UK, which was abolished by the coalition Government in 2010. Lucion had been closely involved in this program, where we were able to give valuable advice. If a school is going to be demolished, Lucion provide pre-demolition surveys. Likewise, if a school needs to be refurbished, we provide pre-refurbishment surveys. If our surveys find suspicious material we will have it tested in our laboratory.
