UKAS Accreditation Specification

Lucion holds quality accreditation that conforms to two international standards, both of which are assessed by UKAS (The United Kingdom Accreditation Service).
Our testing accreditation is assessed to ISO/IEC 17025 and rigorous assessment and quality control procedures ensure that all inhouse testing methods conform to current international standards and MDHS 100, the UK’s approved method for asbestos materials testing.
Our inspection accreditation is assessed to ISO/IEC 17020, and is again supported by inhouse procedures that conform to MDHS 100, the UK's only approved method for asbestos surveying.
The benefits of dual accreditation
Dual accreditation allows Lucion to offer a service enveloped by quality control. Our holding both inspection and testing accreditation allows our quality control system to govern work carried out not just in the test laboratory environment, but also at the survey stage whilst on site. You can therefore be reassured by the fact that not just the testing element of your asbestos survey report is quality accredited, but rather the entire document and the site and laboratory works that go into producing it.
In most cases our clients are interested in the management, surveying and testing of their asbestos, not only because of the potential threat to human health, but also the potential liability they may incur should they not fulfil their legal obligations. That is why they choose to use a service that is UKAS accredited in its entirety. Risk is inherent - we act to minimise it.
Why UKAS?
UKAS is the only quality accreditation body in the UK that holds the expertise necessary to assess an organisations competence in asbestos testing and inspection. This expertise is acknowledged to the extent that UKAS is the nominated accreditation body in the Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations Guidance notes.
ISO9001

Without satisfied customers, an organization is in peril! To keep customers satisfied, the organization needs to meet their requirements. The ISO 9001:2008 standard provides a tried and tested framework for taking a systematic approach to managing the organization's processes so that they consistently turn out product and services that satisfies customers' expectations.
The ISO 9000 family of standards represents an international consensus on good quality management practices. It consists of standards and guidelines relating to quality management systems and related supporting standards.

-
And is used to meet the following internal objectives:
- provide assurance to management that it is in control of their organizational processes and activities having an impact on the environment

Achilles

Achilles pre-qualifies companies who wish to work in the Utilities sector and have shown that they are competent to do so by undergoing rigorous checks on the Quality and Health & Safety systems together with their Financial status in order to ensure that the supplier has the necessary resources to meet the demands of this huge sector.
Chas (Contractors Health & Safety Assessment Scheme)

There are many reasons why our clients make CHAS part of their process for choosing contractors. Moral reasons include a desire to set a good example by working safely. The fact that the scheme saves companies money means there are sound business reasons too. These include best value, meeting procurement regulations and a duty to provide value for money and efficiency savings.
Employers also have legal duties. Section 2(3) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 says all companies that employ five or more people must have a written statement of their health and safety policy. Regulations make employers responsible for assessing the health and safety standards of any company they use to carry out work on their behalf. This is designed to protect the employer's staff and everyone else who is affected by their work.
Employers also have a duty to monitor companies to make sure they are working safely. Of course, the level of assessment and any monitoring should match the level of risk.
